The construction works started in 1917. The Powerstation was put into operation in the summer 1922, with 3 machines, each with a capacity of 2,7 MW. The third and last machine was installed in 1936. Each of the Pelton turbines produces 5000 HP. The Powerstation
supplies the national Norwegian railway system with

Hakavik Powerstation has not been noticably modernized since 1922. Both the original machines and "brettet" are still in use.
